BEACHES

Kea-Tzia is one of the Cycladic island with the largest number of beaches around it, in total 31! Kea-Tzia has been blessed with a number of beautiful beaches, almost all of them in sheltered coves, though not all of them are easily accessible by car.

THE SOUTH SIDE

Avythou

This small gem of a beach in the south has sand and pebble. Good for children. Accessible by 4X4 vehicle only, bring all supplies you may need, no shadow, exposed to southern winds. Nice for snorkeling in caves on the right. Expect few to no people. Nice for naturists & pet lovers.

Liparo

Expansive large sand beach with few houses – gradual drop off – some shallow areas. accessible by high clearance car or crossroad or 4x4, has some shade, bring all supplies you may need. Less frequented beach – you may be alone.

Kampi

Sand.

Excellent for young swimmer. Non organized beach, with taverna close by – accessible by all types of cars. Popular beach, but less crowded than others.

Lygia

Organized beach with café serving food and drinks. Rocky and sandy parts.

Koundouraki

All the facilities you could need - AND sports too! (waterskiing, tubing, scuba diving lessons). Sand and small pebbles with a nice shallow area for children, as well as rock area/ cave on one side that is fun for young children to explore. Organized beach, water sports, bar and burgers, – accessible by all types of cars. Popular beach.

Koundouros

It is one of the most popular beaches son the island, has all the facilities you could need – beach bar, restaurant, play ground. Bar plays music that can be heard while you are in the water. Great for families with small children as beach umbrellas are close to the sea and there is a long shallow area. Rocks on the far side for exploring. Tends to be very crowded and you are "forced" to listen to the music playing. Parking a challenge.

St. Emilianos

Beach facing Koundouros – unorganized. Car must be parked around the corner and you will walk down a slope to the beach. Mostly sandy. Semi-popular beach. Usually many yachts and boats park there as is windless, may be difficult to swim at times.

Mikri Kefala

The road is blocked but you can walk down the long dirt road. Small Sandy beach – not usually frequented. Bring all supplies you need with you. Naturist – unlikely to encounter others.

Kastellakia

Pebble Sand beach.

Kastellakia Bay guests and residents only have access. Reeded umbrellas, your beach! Not often frequented by others on the island.

Peesses

One of the most popular organized beaches on the island. Sand beach but not much shallow area for young children. Organized beach, tavernas close by, accessible by all types of cars. Popular beach, gets crowded but it is large and spread out so you will have space to yourself.

Vroskopos

Non organized beach accessible by long foot path or boat – bring all the supplies you may need. Accessible by 4X4 vehicle only or on foot, boat. Boats often frequent this beach as is well sheltered. Soon to be hogged by the bespoke ONE & ONLY RESORT being built just behind it.

THE NORTH - NORTH WEST

Port/Korissia

Sandy beach.

Organized beach areas, umbrellas, water and food options, can be windy.

Xyla

Sandy organized beach with umbrellas and water, no toilets, can be windy with strong meltemi. Tends to be crowded as is only car accessible sand beach on the crowded NW of the island.

Marades

Sand and Pebbles. Non-Organized, Bring your own water and food. Not crowded. Can be windy.

Mavrambeli

One of the nicest, most private and more beaches of the island accessible by boat. Path down is now unfortunatley gated and closed. Great for naturists.

Kalogeros (Monk)

Sand pebble beach on interesting inlet on the west side, road is challenging to get there, preferably USV or 4x4, only for experienced drivers. No facilities or shade or food/water, bring your own. Exposed to the W or NW winds

Kalamitsi

Beautiful tranquil and secluded beach, easier accessible by boat.

Galiskari

Sandy organized beach with umbrellas, food and water – not recommended as it is near the sewage treatment center, might be windy depending on time of year and weather conditions. Very crowded.

Treis Ammoudies/Kefala

Non-organized beach near 3 large villas, challenging to access, bring your own food and water, more folk are finding them now due to island over-crowing in north in summer months.

Otzias

One of the most known and popular beaches on Kea. Sand and some rocky areas – especially good for young children as it is shallow at first. Organized beach, food (see Restaurant section on our site) and water available might be very windy if meltemi blows as it is facing North Easter. Although it is very popular and ‘crowded’ it is a very large beach and there is plenty of space for everyone. Access in them middle difficult, is rocky and slippery, prefer the edges.

THE EAST SIDE

Spathi

Sandy beach bahc that has becoem increasingly popular due ot its beach bar. Doesn’t have much of a shallow area for very young children. Organized beach, food and water available and small tavern (see KAIKAS in Restaurants), accessible by most cars however the road is not paved, is long and has turns, might be windy depending on time of year and weather conditions. Although it is very popular and ‘crowded, it is a very large beach and there is plenty of space for everyone to set up your own umbrella.

Kalydoniki/Psili Ammos

Sand and Pebbles.

You much either walk or drive windy roads, an off road or crossroad vehicle recommended but you can risk going with normal one too. Has nice big cave on left to snorkel. Bring all supplies you need with you and umbrella/shade.

Sykamia

Large impressive mostly sandy, non-organized beach, accessible by most cars however, road is long and has a lot of turns, be SURE to bring water and any supplies you may need.

Psathi

Sand/Small Pebble Beach.

Non organized beach, accessible by jeep or high clearance cars, roads is long and has a lot of turns, be SURE to bring water and any supplies you may need.

Orkos

Small pebbles and sand. Non-organized beach, has shade and pic nic tables under the tamarisks, is usually occupied by campers, etc. Is accessible by most cars however, road is narrow and has many many turns, do not try it unless you are a confident expereinced driver. Bring water and any supplies you may need, no tavern.

Telegraph

Where once the telegraph cable linking the island would go through (you can still see it) One of the nicest beaches son the island, very tranquil sand/small white pebble beach, ideal for naturists or pet owners. 4X4 and experienced drivers only!!! Road is rough and bring all supplies and shade you may need. Accessible by boat.

Ag. Philippos

You have to walk down! accessible by food path (or boat) bring all supplies you may need, very private and remote though meltemi may make it wavy.

Karthaia/Poles

Sandy Beach.

Accessible by foot path (or boat) bring all supplies you may need. Combine with avisit ot marvelous, breath-taking Ancient Karthea.

Kaliskia

One of the nicest and most remote and private beaches of the island that unfortunately has become increasingly popular. Sandy beach with some tamarisks to provide shade but are usually taken by campers. Not a lot of shallow areas, water is nice, clear and ...refreshing. Accessible by 4X4 vehicle only, bring all supplies you may need. Path to Ancient Karthea and Poles Bay start here (45 min walk)

Shinos/Kakotrahila

Two sand and small white pebble very remote and private beaches in the SW. Slow drop in – good shallow areas. Road is difficult, accessible by 4X4 vehicle only, bring all supplies you may need. On your own – ideal for naturists.
